Fluxblog Pledge Drive

May 11, 2009

I’m not sure how many of you are still reading this, or how many of you also read my regular website Fluxblog. If you were not aware, I am currently running something akin to a pledge drive on that site. There are t-shirts for sale, and a paypal set up for donations.  (If you have trouble with that link, please just use the one on the Fluxblog site.)

Like so many other people right now, I am currently going through a rough time financially. It’s a pretty bad time to be a freelance writer without any insurance, and so I’m asking for any support anyone can afford to give. If you’ve been a fan of this site, or Fluxblog and any of its satellite projects, this is a great time to show your support. I’ve never asked anything of my audience before, and I feel a bit lame doing this, but you know, times are tough. I hope they aren’t so bad for you. If you can help out, I am super grateful. If you cannot, I totally understand.

I can totally dig where you’re coming from. I live in the Detroit area. A year ago I was working for a supplier to G.M. now I’m working as a cook. The amount of lay offs around here are stunning. I would love to buy the T-shirts! I will look into it. But you got to promise to cover ‘Accelerate’ sometime in ‘09! LOL! Anyway, hang in there things have GOT to get better. They certainly can’t get any worse!

I’ll take a closer look at this in a couple of days. I am overwhelmed with homework, can’t think straight.

  3. Wezzo Says:

    Matthew,

When I try to click the Paypal link I get the following error:

“Sorry — your last action could not be completed

If you were making a purchase or sending money, we recommend that you check both your PayPal account and your email for a transaction confirmation after 30 minutes.

If you came to this page from another website, please return to that site (don’t use your browser’s Back button) and restart your activity.”

  4. Man, a lot of people are having trouble with the paypal — apparently you can just make the donation straight to the account, which is matthewperpetua @ gmail

    THANK YOU!

    Matthew,
over the last year I’ve carefully, relentlessly read your comments on R.E.M. songs, so that I kind of feel empathy with you: believe mo or not, I’ve almost daily (well, let’s say weekly) opened this blog, looking for different shades of light with which illuminate Michael Stipe’s words. The truth is, since a) I’m Italian and my English might not always assist me, and (consequently, perhaps?) b) I’ve always tend to give ear to the music first and anly at a second moment to the lyrics (great music sung with a charming voice gives me the shivers, I don’t give a fuck of what the singer is saying); well the truth is your elucidations and your clever insights on this huge body of work meant and still means a lot to me as an R.E.M. aficionado. So, to conclude, I’m verry sorry you’re in financial trouble. Unfortunately, so am I. I hope one day I can give you something and don’t feel bad because I could have spent the money somewhere else better. But thank you for this blog a lot! Ciao

  6. Wezzo Says:

Ah, so I can. Done. Thanks!

  7. whenwhenwhen Says:

but when are you gonna dissect the tracks of Accelerate?

  8. ChampionOfTheWorld Says:

I thought about you last night, Matthew, when watching Breaking Bad…..Mr.White’s son created a website geared to a worldwide fund drive to help his Dad, “complete with Paypal and everything”… That said, I don’t really know what to say (!). This whole situation is really awkward. #1 I could only send you a couple of dollars, which is not even worth the trouble. #2 I feel like I owe you someithing because of all the enjoyment I’ve gotten from your writing and all. #3 Quite surreal, I must say, that you’re on here asking for money, (now that I have the time to focus in on it)……Well, Good Luck , Man. I hope things are getting better for you. How about the boys in the band? I wonder if they’ve seen your circumstance? Though I’m sure they’ve got green going to a thousand other good causes.

  9. Beethoven Was Deaf Says:

Long time guys! Good cause! Still waiting for some discussion of Accelerate

  10. ChampionOfTheWorld Says:

a few of you guys make it sound like you’ll send Matthew some green, but first he has to do Accelerate……..

  11. Jared Says:

I’m not sure if I understand the above comments that well, and I don’t wanna make any enemies, but if you guys can’t throw literally a few bucks Matthew’s way, then you have absolutely no right to demand Accelerate write-ups.

I basically rediscovered half of the REM catalog in a new light thanks to this blog. I figure that’s worth the value of 6-7 albums. The least we could do is send the guy five or ten bucks, no?

  12. ChampionOfTheWorld Says:

you know what, I think I will send a couple of bucks :) what the hey. if twenty people send five bucks, Matthew can stave off having his electricity and internet service turned off, thus he’ll be able to write about Accelerate. that’s the way I look at it. it’s all about me.

  13. Timb Says:

I would send him $$ but the paypal link is broken and I’m not sure how to donate to Gmail…

  14. D Says:

Matthew, I sent some $$ help.

Folks, please don’t wait for Matthew to analyze Accelerate. If you appreciate this site and his main one as I have, then please help the young man out if you can. And yes the PayPal link is messed up but you can easily figure out how to donate from the gmail address given. If confused, ask a family member or friend.

REM rocked Lorelei last summer. Perfect evening with the lady who lowered herself to marry me, coincidentally, about the same time Chronic Town was issued.

Still trying to fully grok Murmur.

  15. Silbermond Says:

Hi, never give up! Your site is great, i hope you can find a Business Angel who will support you.

  16. dave. Says:

i love your blog and wish i could support- but i have been unemployed for nine months and am feeling the pinch along with everyone else. keep writing! even if it isn’t exactly paying the bills…

  17. Felipe Macedo Says:
